"If it really hurt that badly, you wouldn't be hungry"?

So yesterday I was having really bad menstrual cramps. I had been crying which pissed off my father. He is a minimizer and was insistent that I was "fine" and "there are worse things in this world". I was eating and he said "If it really hurt that badly, you wouldn't be hungry. You wouldn't want to look at food", and went on to insist that it's all connected and that he has a background in this stuff. But for once i think he doesn't know what he's talking about. The reproductive system and the digestive system don't work like that, do they? Somebody PLEASE confirm this.
