American lax toward Japan Nuclear crisis?

Does it make anyone else sick how oblivious people in America are? People truly think that the nuclear activity in Japan cant hurt us, others havent even turned their news on to even realize what is happening. Finally on cnn now they are saying how concerned they are about the west coast. And California ia low on Potium Iodine now because people have been stocking up. Even if the radiation doesnt get here which I think it will, it is going to get into the water, kill fish and destroy our ecosystem as well as the atmosphere. Scientists are predicting the earth was shifted on its axis 6 inches due to the earthquake and cut a few milliseconds off the length of a day. Japan is not going to be producing anything and they produce most of our computers, ipods, mp3s tablets. What are your opinions? How are people in your area reacting toward it, does anyone seem concerned? I am from MA but currently live at Camp Lejeune NC and people around here are clueless. I dont care if you agree with me but intelligent answers only please.
