I want to drive from Quintana Roo to Oaxaca ping by Chiapas for my honey moon Is that a lot of driving?

a couple of my friends just did that, one italian guy married with an amarican girl. from cancun they took a bus to merida and from there they drove all the way to chiapas (palenque, san cistobal etc) and then to oaxaca to huatulco. they loved it and described it as the best trip of their lives. never felt unsafe.
