IS this a good thing to say if I am trying to hit on girls?

There is this cute girl in my college cl and I want to talk to her but I dont know any conversation starters. Would asking about thanksgiving plans be good? Once I get a conversation started should I ask "Are you going to your BFs for TG" and if she says she doesnt have a BF should I say something like "How can someone as beautiful as you have no BF" and once I say that I dont know where to go from there.
